$400.00

Gerald Dawavendewa (Hopi & Cherokee)

Arcylic on wood panel - 12 by 12 by .75 inches

A Histasinom maiden carries a bowl upon her head with a rain cloud. The bowl has cloud symbols upon it. She wears her hair in a style called a Squash blossom. Behind her on the mesa are symbols of a thunderstorm, a migration spiral, and friendship. On the horizon are rain clouds surrounding her. The Hisatsinom are the ancestors of the Hopi people.

This artwork honors the ancient mural-painting style by using matte, textured pigment paints that echo the original murals found at ancient Pueblo sites. Pueblo painting is one of the oldest artistic traditions in the Southwest, dating back over 4000 years.
