Sìitàlpuva - A land brightened with flowers

$300.00

Gerald Dawavendewa (Hopi & Cherokee)

Acrylic on wood - 12 by 6 by 1.5 inches

The land of Sìitàlpuva is where the rain refreshes the soil, seeds sprout, and all forms of life abound. A mound of rich soil holds seeds from various plants; many grow into beautiful corn ears and flowers. Above the plants, dragonflies arrive with the rain. Above, Taawa the sun rises.

This artwork honors the ancient mural-painting style by using matte, textured pigment paints that echo the original murals found at ancient Pueblo sites. Pueblo painting is one of the oldest artistic traditions in the Southwest, dating back over 4000 years.
