Sowi'yngwa - Mule Deer

$3.50

NC52

Gerald Dawavendewa (Hopi & Cherokee)

A deer stands among fields of blooming flowers, representing the promise of life. Flowers symbolize a land abundant in plants, animals, and moisture, a place that Hopi people pray for and aspire to.

Over 4,000 years ago, indigenous people created twig figures depicting deer to honor and offer prayers for good hunting in Arizona's Grand Canyon and other places throughout the southwest.

(Back side of card includes a drawing of the deer twig figure)
