Squash Maiden

$18.00

Gerald Dawavendewa (Hopi & Cherokee)

Squash Maiden reaches outward with vines to the fertile soil as rain clouds gather on the horizon. Below are dragonflies announcing their coming. Squash, Corn, and beans are known as the Three Sisters. Planted together, they support and benefit each other. Corn gives Bean a place to climb upward, and Bean offers nutrients to the soil. Squash covers the ground around them, protecting them from insects with prickly hair-covered vines.
